Smathers Libraries' fourth annual Read-A-Thon coming March 27-30

The George A. Smathers Libraries’ fourth annual Read-A-Thon will be held Monday through Thursday on the colonnade in front of Library West.

The event will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, and feature 10-minute readings from favorite books by faculty, students and staff along with community members. Tuesday’s event is Children’s Literature Day and runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Local preschool and elementary school children will be included as listeners until noon, and young adult literature will be read until 2 p.m.

Listeners meander in and out to listen for a few minutes or an hour. All genres will be read including adventure, mystery, humor, poetry, history, philosophy, children’s literature, and short stories.

The atmosphere is casual, unstructured except for the time slots and open to everyone on campus to be a listener. The schedule of readers is listed at http://www.uflib.ufl.edu/readathon.

The Read-A-Thon is a celebration of reading and a kickoff for National Library Week, April 2-8.

Co-sponsors for the event are Five Star Pizza – 210 SW 2nd Ave., WUFT-TV, Publix and Sweet Dreams Ice Cream Desserts & Coffee, 3437 W. University Ave.
