Schools superintendent to speak at breakfast meeting

March 22, 2006

Dan Boyd, superintendent of Alachua County Public Schools, will speak at the April 12 Community Campus Council 2005–06 Breakfast Series.

Boyd’s topic is “Strong Schools for a Strong Community: School Facilities and the Sales Tax Initiative.”

Boyd said a lack of funding has left many of Alachua County’s public school facilities in serious need of work, and the problems will only become more extensive and expensive unless they are addressed. He will discuss the district’s facilities needs and the launching of an initiative to generate community support for a half-cent sales tax.

The breakfast program starts at 7:30 a.m. in the Arredondo Room, Reitz Student Union, fourth floor. The $5 buffet is payable at the door. Checks are payable to The University of Florida.

If interested in attending, please contact Florida Bridgewater-Alford at (352) 846-3903 or bridgefl@ufl.edu before noon April 7.
