More sponsors needed for "Fanfares & Fireworks" event

March 16, 2006

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Additional financial support is needed if the annual Independence Eve celebration known as “Fanfares & Fireworks” is going to happen this year on the University of Florida campus.

Public broadcasting stations WUFT-TV, Channel 5, and WUFT-FM, Classic 89, present the event each year on July 3. It has been made possible by the financial support of local businesses and organizations since 1990.

This year funding is limited, and the event will not happen without additional monetary contributions. WUFT is seeking at least two more businesses or organizations to continue the patriotic tradition of free music and fireworks at the University of Florida Bandshell. The City of Gainesville has once again offered its financial support, and two more $6,000 sponsors are needed for 2006.

“Fanfares & Fireworks” is free and open to the public and provides families and individuals the opportunity to picnic in the grass, enjoy musical performances and a spectacular fireworks show – the only fireworks show in Gainesville for Independence Day.

Event sponsors receive a banner on the stage and the opportunity to set up a booth to distribute information at the event. Sponsors will be included in all event promotion, as well as continuing on-air recognition on WUFT-TV/FM.

Interested sponsors should contact Harvey Ward, Director of Corporate Support, at (352) 392-5551 or (352) 392-5200, ext. 1108, by Friday, April 14.

WUFT-TV/FM are public broadcasting stations serving North Central and Mid-Florida. Their studios are located in the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications.
