Forum slated to gain input into NCAA certification process at UF

Who: The National Collegiate Athletic Association Self-Study Steering Committee

What: The committee will hold an open forum as part of the NCAA Division I Athletics Self-Study process. Interested parties may ask questions or provide feedback about the process, which includes a draft report that examines UF’s compliance with standards defined by the NCAA in the following areas: governance and commitment to rules compliance; academic integrity; and equity and student welfare. The draft will be posted at http://www.gatorzone.com/compliance. Once the university has concluded the self-study, the final report will be submitted to the NCAA no later than May 15. To complete the certification process, an external Peer Review Team will visit the university in the fall.

When: 7 p.m. Monday, March 27.

Where: Reitz Student Union, Room 363.

Background: The University of Florida began a yearlong, campuswide effort to study its athletics program as part of the NCAA Division I Athletics Certification program. The University of Florida achieved NCAA-certified status during the first-cycle certification process in 1998 and interim process in 2002. The second cycle self-study process commenced with President Bernie Machen’s appointment of 18 individuals to the NCAA Self-Study Steering Committee in August 2005.
