University of Florida unveils 2005-2015 campus master plan

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The University of Florida will hold two workshops and one public hearing on the campus master plan during the next month.

The purpose of the meetings is to provide an opportunity for the public to comment on the plan. The plan describes the projected growth for the main campus, 13 Alachua County satellite properties and two satellite properties outside of Alachua County — Apopka and Fort Lauderdale — for the next 10 years.

The plan focuses on land use, transportation, housing, capital improvements, conservation, recreation, infrastructure, utilities, urban design and academic facilities.

• Nov. 16, 6 to 8 p.m., Emerson Alumni Hall, President’s Room, 1938 W. University Ave., Gainesville. This will be a public workshop in an open house format with story boards and a brief presentation at 6:30 p.m.
• Nov. 21, 5 to 7 p.m., Florida Community Design Center in the Commerce Building, 300 E. University Ave., Gainesville. This will be an exhibit opening to include display boards, maps, documents and a brief presentation about 6 p.m. The exhibit will remain open to the public through at least the end of December. The center’s hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.
• Dec. 14, 7 p.m., formal public hearing at Paramount Hotel, Ballroom C, 2900 S.W. 13th St., Gainesville. This is the first of two required public hearings. The second public hearing is anticipated for April 2006. Following the first public hearing, the documents will be transmitted to various local, state and regional agencies for formal review.
