Percussion group to perform free concert Nov. 8

November 1, 2005

The University of Florida Percussion Ensemble will present a free concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, in University Auditorium.

The ensemble is under the direction of Kenneth Broadway, associate professor of music. This concert will feature guest conductor Raymond Chobaz, musical director of the UF Symphony Orchestra. Of particular note will be a performance of “Ionisation,” a landmark work for percussion ensemble by composer Edgar Varese. Composed in 1930, this work is considered the first composition exclusively for percussion instruments.

Chobaz will also conduct the “Concerto for Marimba” by Ney Rosauro, featuring Broadway as soloist. For more information, call 392-0223, ext. 236.
