Eclectic program set for trio's performance Sunday

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – As hip and energetic as ever, the Ahn Trio brings an eclectic program to University Auditorium at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20. The artists will lead a pre-performance discussion in the Auditorium’s Friends of Music Room at 3 p.m.

Comprised of South Korean-born twins Lucia (piano) and Maria (cello), and their sister, Angella (violin), the Ahn Trio captures the intellect, hearts and souls of music lovers worldwide. After moving to the United States in 1981, the sisters enrolled at The Juilliard School and first came to national attention six years later when they were featured in a Time cover story entitled “Asian-American Whiz Kids.” Currently, the Ahn Trio performs over 100 concerts a year all over the world, while conducting workshops and master classes for children and adults.

Two special guests will join the Ahns on Bunch’s Concerto for Piano Trio and Percussion: Kenneth Broadway, associate professor of music at University of Florida’s College of Fine Arts, and Robbie Stevens, box office manager for University of Florida Performing Arts. Broadway teaches applied percussion and directs UF’s percussion ensemble and steel drum bands. Stevens graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston. He has performed and recorded with several rock bands, and performed as primary percussionist for several off-Broadway productions in New York City.

Tickets are: $35, front orchestra and mezzanine; $30, rear orchestra; $25, balcony. Rush tickets may be available in the balcony day of show for $10.

$10 student tickets are available anywhere in the house for University of Florida students and in the balcony for other students. Students must purchase tickets in person with student ID at the Phillips Center Box Office or at University Box Office in the Reitz Union. Each student may purchase only one student ticket per performance, for himself or herself only. Student tickets are based on availability.

The Phillips Center Box Office is open noon to 6 p.m. Monday to Saturday. University Auditorium Box Office is open two hours prior to performance time.
