CATS comes to the Phillips Center for three performances only, Jan. 28-29

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – “CATS,” the show that revolutionized musical theatre, celebrates its 25th anniversary with a national tour that takes it to the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts for three shows only on Saturday, Jan. 28, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 29, at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale now.

“CATS” opened at the New London Theatre in the West End on May 11, 1981, where it is still running, and at New York’s Winter Garden Theatre in 1982. It became the longest running musical on Broadway on June 19, 1997, and ended its 18-year run on Sept. 10, 2000.

Featuring music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, including the hit song “Memory,” “CATS” won seven 1983 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Lighting and Best Costumes.

Tickets are: $60, front orchestra and mezzanine; $55, mid-orchestra; $50, rear orchestra; $45, balcony.

$10 student tickets may be available. Students must purchase tickets in person with student ID at the Phillips Center Box Office or at University Box Office in the Reitz Student Union. Each student may purchase only one student ticket per performance, for himself or herself only. Student tickets are subject to availability.

The Phillips Center Box Office is open noon to 6 p.m. Monday to Saturday, and two hours prior to performance time.
