University of Florida hosts simulcast of White House conference

WHAT: Simulcast of White House Conference on Helping America’s Youth

WHEN: Thursday, Oct. 27, 9:20 a.m. to noon and 1:20 to 5 p.m.

WHERE: Room G520, ground floor of the education library in Norman Hall

BACKGROUND: The University of Florida is the host site for the state of Florida for a simulcast of the first-ever White House Conference on Helping America’s Youth, hosted by First Lady Laura Bush at Howard University in Washington, D.C.

The conference will promote awareness of problems facing at-risk youth by assembling research experts, policy makers, educators, volunteer organizations, coaches and parents to share examples of what is already working and to generate new ideas. Speakers will include President Bush and members of his cabinet.

A national digital network linking a site in each of the 50 states with Washington will provide broadcast and Webcast feeds, as well as e-mail. The conference video also will be available on the UF Web site.

Faculty, students and representatives of community groups and other educational institutions are invited to participate in the conference at the simulcast sites.
