GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Mitchell Estrin, clarinet professor and director of the clarinet ensemble at the University of Florida, has been named to the position of educational and creative development manager for Buffet Crampon USA Inc., the world’s leading clarinet manufacturer.

Estrin will continue his responsibilities as a professor and director of the clarinet ensemble at UF, a position he has held since 1999. Prior to his appointment at UF, Estrin enjoyed a 20-year association with the New York Philharmonic where he performed in more than 2,000 concerts with the orchestra as principal, second, and E-flat clarinetist under five music directors and many distinguished guest conductors. Estrin continues to perform periodically as a guest artist with the orchestra. This month, he will rejoin the orchestra to perform in four concerts at Lincoln Center. He has accompanied the orchestra on 19 international tours, made dozens of recordings with the orchestra, and on numerous occasions performed with the Philharmonic on the PBS award-winning series, “Live from Lincoln Center.”

Estrin has a discography of more than 100 solo, chamber, orchestral, and commercial recordings. He has recorded dozens of motion picture soundtracks, including “The Alamo,” “The Rookie,” “You’ve Got Mail,” “Beauty & The Beast,” and “The Untouchables.”

In 2002, he was the principal clarinetist for the “NBC 75th Anniversary Special,” a live three-hour television broadcast. An active producer of recordings and musical events, his recent activities include producing a new solo recording by New York Philharmonic Principal Trombonist, Joseph Alessi, and as Artistic Director of the Vandoren & Buffet Clarinet Choir Festival in Atlanta.
