Six faculty members recognized by Florida Blue Key

October 3, 2005

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — University of Florida’s Homecoming recognized the six recipients of the Florida Blue Key Distinguished Faculty Award at the annual Education Celebration Wednesday at the Keene Faculty Center in Dauer Hall.

Professors Nora Alter, Marc Branch, Kenneth Gerhardt, Gerhard Ritter, Carlos Risco and the late William Frazer were announced as the award winners. As winners of the 2005 Florida Blue Key Distinguished Faculty award, they have the opportunity to attend the Homecoming brunch at the president’s house and are able to ride as honored guests in the homecoming parade. Also, they are invited to attend the Florida Blue Key Alumni Reunion and are able to stand on the field during the homecoming game in front of the Gator Nation where they will be recognized at the end of the first quarter.

The awards were chosen from about 18 applicants based on dedication to the university, research, students and the greater Gainesville community. Each applicant had to be nominated by a fellow faculty member and then endorsed by a dean. Florida Blue Key has been giving the distinguished faculty award to outstanding faculty members since 1945.

This year the Interfraternity Council and the Panhellenic Council sponsored the Education Celebration.
