UF chapter of Mortar Board National College Senior Honor Society wins award

The University of Florida chapter of the Mortar Board National College Senior Honor Society was among 18 chapters to receive the Golden Torch Award at a national conference held July 22-24 in Columbus, Ohio.

Chapters are selected based on a series of criteria that include meeting chapter minimum standards for the year as set out in the Mortar Board constitution, turning in all report forms, paying all fees by June 1 and exemplifying the ideals of scholarship, leadership and service.

Also recognized were chapters from: University of San Diego, The University of Michigan, Northern Illinois University, University of South Alabama, Purdue University, Kent State University, Kansas State University, Oklahoma State University, The Ohio State University, San Diego State University, University of Wyoming, The University of Denver, The University of Nebraska at Kearney, Washington State University, University of Puget Sound, Texas Tech University and Case Western Reserve University.

Mortar Board is a national honor society that recognizes college seniors for outstanding achievement in scholarship, leadership and service. Since its founding in 1918, the organization has grown from the four founding chapters to 213 chapters and 240,000 initiated members across the nation.

Members of each Mortar Board chapter spend their senior year working together to give back to their communities, the nation and the world through the areas of scholarship, leadership and service. Furthermore, Mortar Board provides opportunities for continued leadership development, promotes service to colleges and universities and encourages lifelong contributions to the global community.
