February 4, 2005

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — University of Florida trustees Roland Daniels and Earl Powell have been reappointed to the board, Gov. Jeb Bush announced today.

Daniels, president of Saturn of Gainesville, has been on the board since it was created in 2001. Powell, co-founder, chairman and chief executive officer of Trivest Partners, a private equity investment firm in Miami, was named to the board in 2003, succeeding Louise Courtellis.

“Roland and Earl have been excellent board members who have made significant contributions towards our university’s goals and objectives. I look forward to their continued presence and input,” said board chairman Manny Fernandez.

Said UF President Bernie Machen: “Roland and Earl are accomplished business and community leaders who have a great deal to offer to our board. We value their participation.”

Under Florida law, members of the university boards of trustees are appointed by the Governor or the Board of Governors. Today’s appointments were made by Gov. Bush. Two additional appointments to the UF Board of Trustees will be made by the Florida Board of Governors at its meeting on Feb. 24.

Daniels graduated from Howard University with a bachelor’s degree in marketing. An active participant in the community and civic organizations, Daniels is a member of the Rotary Club of Gainesville and serves on the boards of the Boys and Girls Club of Alachua County, North Central Florida Hospice, Alachua County Healthy Kids, AvMed North Florida, Shands Healthcare and Wachovia National Bank.

Powell also is chairman of Atlantis Plastics, chairman of Brown Jordan International, Inc. and a director of several Trivest-related companies. Prior to forming Trivest in 1981, Mr. Powell was a partner of KPMG Peat Marwick. Powell has been a Director on the University of Florida Foundation Board since 1997. Powell attended UF from 1957 to 1960 and earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Miami in 1964.
