UF to require writing test for undergraduate applicants

June 19, 2003

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The University of Florida announced today that it will require all undergraduate applicants to take a standardized writing test beginning in spring 2005.

UF will use the writing test in admissions and placement decisions.

“We want students to know that writing skills are important for success at UF,” said Provost Dr. David Colburn. “We are announcing the new requirement early so that students will be prepared.”

Students wishing to enter UF beginning in fall 2006 will be required to submit results from the SAT, which will include a mandatory writing test beginning in March 2005. UF also will accept the ACT provided that students take the optional writing test that ACT will begin offering in spring 2005.
