Students recognized for posters during Graduate Research Day
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — More than 170 University of Florida students had posters featured in the recent annual Graduate Student Research Day.
The event is coordinated by the Innovation through Institutional Integration’s
Graduate Student Advisory Council. It also featured a panel session from experts in the field and the professional development workshops for graduate students across campus.
Workshop topics included ethics, scientific writing, open access, leading discussions, finding a job post-graduation, navigating graduate student life and UF resources for graduate students. The event was open to all graduate students, undergraduate students participating in research activities, postdoctoral fellows/associates, researchers and faculty.
The highest-scoring posters received monetary awards to support their research-related conference presentations. Honorable mention posters received recognition. The posters were judged by a team of faculty, staff, community members and graduate students Oct. 23 in the Reitz Student Union Grand Ballroom. Graduate and undergraduate students were judged in separate categories.
The winning posters in the graduate student category were:
Matthew Andrus, chemistry.
Jennifer Howell, psychology.
Eduardo Lam, interior design.
Jessica Langebrake, mathematics.
Lynne Mercier, neuroscience.
Marina Suzuki-Kawaguchi, pharmacotherapy, translational research.
Honorable mention in the graduate student category were:
Daniel Dixon, microbiology, cell science.
Tanisha Hill-Jarrett, clinical and health psychology.
Nicholas Maling, neuroscience.
Deepa Pindolia, geography.
The winning poster in the undergraduate student category was:
Clayton Cozzan, material sciences and engineering.
Honorable mention in undergraduate student category was:
George Merritt, anesthesiology and finance.
GSAC is a graduate student group made up of students from diverse backgrounds in various colleges and stages of their graduate career that helps identify missing elements in graduate student training at UF. GSAC provides feedback and helps improve the existing professional development opportunities for graduate students.
