Libertarian speaker to present ACCENT program Thursday
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — ACCENT Speakerâ€™s Bureau at the University of Florida will present “Americaâ€™s Economic Meltdown by Dr. Tom Woods,” at 8 p.m. Thursday in the Reitz Student Union Grand Ballroom.
As a New York Times Best-selling author of 11 books, Woods has been recognized as one of the most influential minds in the subjects of history, economics and contemporary politics. Known for his libertarian views, Woods has been endorsed by several influential political and economic figures including Ron Paul, who sought the Republican nomination for president this year.
In addition to writing books, Woods created Liberty Classrooms, a group of online courses about â€śthe history and economics they didnâ€™t teach you.â€ť
During the show, Woods will be talking about the effects of politics and history on current economic situation in the United States.
Woods holds a bachelorâ€™s degree from Harvard University and masterâ€™s and doctorate degrees from Columbia University.
Doors open at 7 p.m., and admission is free and open to the public. Photography will be allowed during the show.
ACCENT Speakerâ€™s Bureau is the largest student-run speakerâ€™s bureau in the nation and is an agency of the University of Florida Student Government. Since its creation in 1967, ACCENT has had as its mission to bring a plethora of prominent, influential and controversial speakers to the University of Florida with the intent of further educating the universityâ€™s student body outside the classroom.
