Shark nursery - photo 2

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — In this photo taken May 6, 2010, the lateral cusplets shown in this close-up of a juvenile megalodon shark tooth from the Gatun Formation, Panama, are characteristic of older adult Carcharocles species, but only found occasionally in juveniles. The tooth was analyzed at the Florida Museum of Natural History on the University of Florida campus as part of a National Science Foundation-funded study appearing in the journal PLoS One describing the first Neotropical megalodon shark nursery.
