Shark bite

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — To better communicate the actual severity of shark bites, University of Florida researchers have created the Shark Induced Trauma Scale, or SIT Scale, detailed in the January 2010 issue of The American Surgeon. Lead researcher Dr. Ashley Lentz, a plastic and reconstructive surgery fellow at the UF College of Medicine, says using the sum of the SIT scoring assessment gives emergency care workers and health professionals a standardized way to discuss the level of injury.
Lentz is seen here in a photo taken Jan. 22, 2010, at the Florida of Museum of Natural History.
