Sea oats
UF environmental horticulture professor Mike Kane demonstrates how to insert a plant sample into a cryogenic storage container – Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009. Kane and his UF/IFAS colleagues hope to cryogenically store thousands of genetically diverse sea oats samples. If an area of beach is eroded, a sample of local sea oats can be used to repopulate that beach with plants already adapted to that particular environment.
