Thomas Emmel

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — On Sept. 10, 2009, University of Florida McGuire Center for Lepidoptera and Biodiversity Director Thomas Emmel displays some of the 2.2 million butterflies and moths recently donated to the Florida Museum of Natural History at the University of Florida. Emmel said the gift from Dr. William and Nadine McGuire contains “hundreds and possible more than 1,000 new species” and reinforces the center’s strength as the world’s largest Lepidoptera education and research facility.
