Vultures

In this file photo released by the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, wildlife biologist Michael Avery offers food to a captive vulture at a U.S. Department of Agriculture facility in east Gainesville. Avery, an expert on vulture management, co-authored a paper on a mathematical formula to determine how many of the birds can be removed from a local population without jeopardizing its longterm viability.
