Depressed Consumers

SOT: McCarty: “The big declines were in perceptions of personal finances now
compared to a year ago and perceptions as to whether it’s a good time to buy. Both of these components are both at record lows. And I think that’s quite disturbing because I think those are the two components of the index that are most predictive of consumer spending.” (:19)
SOT: McCarty: “So there are a lot of things affecting consumers negatively. About the only bright spot is that demand for oil is now so low that prices for oil and gasoline prices keep plummeting. So that ultimately should help a little bit, but right now, it’s not a good circumstance for consumers.” (:19)
