In this file photo released from the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, entomology professor Dov Borovsky checks petri dishes containing bacteria genetically modified to produce a mosquito hormone known as TMOF – Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005. The hormone shuts down the digestive process in mosquitoes and other insects, and can cause them to starve to death. Borovsky and other researchers developed a way to make crop plants produce TMOF as an environmentally friendly pest control method.
