Students win awards for promoting diversity in residence facilities

George Smith, a junior psychology major from Memphis, Tenn., and Ana Metallo, a graduate health administration major from Tampa, Fla., were selected as the Department of Housing and Residence Education Multicultural Student Award recipients for 2006.

Two UF students win Truman Scholarships

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (March 28, 2006) — The Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation has selected two University of Florida juniors as winners of its national scholarship for students preparing for leadership in public service: Ashley Bittner and Bruce Haupt. The award is a scholarship of up to $30,000 for graduate school in a public service field.

Inner-city black men face higher risk of prostate cancer

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Inner-city black men are almost twice as likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer as whites and are four times more likely to be in advanced stages of the disease at diagnosis, according to a new study led by University of Florida researchers.

UF study: Healthy stock returns beef up Florida consumer confidence
