William Messina, an economic analyst with the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences in Gainesville, says lowering trade barriers with Cuba would create opportunities for U.S. agricultural producers and challenges for some Florida growers — Thursday, September 15, 2005. In 2000, U.S. legislation allowed exports to Cuba for the first time since 1960. Cuba is now the 25th-largest export market for U.S. food and agricultural products.
