UF students, others asked to volunteer 100 million minutes

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The University of Florida hopes a campaign to generate volunteerism this school year will result in 100 million minutes of community service by students and other area residents.

Professor leaving UF to become dean at Utah State

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Nat Frazer, professor and chairman of the wildlife ecology and conservation department at the University of Florida, will become dean of the College of Natural Resources at Utah State University in Logan, beginning Jan. 1, 2006.

Private marinas disappearing but public efforts could ease problem, says UF researcher

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Along the nation’s coastlines, marinas are being replaced by high-priced residential and commercial developments, a trend that leaves increasing numbers of boat owners high and dry, unable to access marine waters.

UF reports record amount of research awards, nearly $500 million

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Research awards to the University of Florida rose 5 percent to a record $494 million in 2004-05, due in part to a 10.8 percent increase in federal funding and a 16.5 percent increase in foundation awards.

UF researcher gets $11 million to study genes, blood pressure drugs
