Gopher tortoise burrow
Mike Moulton, an associate professor with the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, checks a gopher tortoise burrow in Gainesville — Thursday, Aug. 4, 2005. Moulton is studying whether gopher tortoises displaced by inland development could be relocated to coastal islands protected from development. Found only in six Southeastern states, the reptiles are disappearing due to loss of habitat.
