UF Sub

GAINESVILLE, Fla.—University of Florida engineering students (from left) Megan Grimm, Dave Novick and Julie Pollock put their robotic submarine “Subjugator” through a shakedown cruise Wednesday (6/29) in preparation for the third International Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Competition, set for July 7-9 at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort in Orlando. The object of the competition is for the subs, which are neither manned nor remote controlled, to find and retrieve a simulated aircraft black box from a small lake. Thirteen teams from around the world will vie in the competition. The UF team has redesigned its submarine since last year’s competition, when it came in second place behind the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
